Connecting West Salem to the State Capital

The bikeway will enhance the overall pedestrian, bike riding, and vehicular safety of Union Street. The focus of the project will include upgrading Union Street with new road striping to provide dedicated bike lanes, vehicle parking pockets, enhanced green space, and public transit stops. Additionally, the intersection of Union Street NE and Liberty Street NE will be improved to include a traffic signals and bulb out corners to improve safety for both bicycles and pedestrians.

Once construction is complete, an integral link in the bicycle system will be provided in downtown Salem that connects the 134-mile Willamette Valley Scenic Bikeway, Wallace Marine Park, Riverfront Park, Minto Island Park, and the North Capital Mall. Your input into this project will help designers build a bike path that will serve Salem residents for years to come.

This project will be subject to the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) review process, environmental clearances, and permits required for a Federal aid project. Work will also include all environmental clearances and permits required for Federal aid project. Work will also include all environmental permitting and mitigation necessary to comply with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requirements for the proposed improvements.
