Request Police Records

police report and handcuffsThe primary method of requesting Police Records should be through use of the City of Salem's Public Records portal. If you do not have an email address, you can request police records in person or by fax from the Salem Police Department at following address or phone:

All requests are processed in the order in which they are received. After staff receive your request, it will take a minimum of 72 hours to process it.

Police reports

You can get a copy of a police report if the investigation and prosecution have been completed. If you do not have a case number, the Community Crime Map may be able to assist you. Visit the site to search for the incident using the date and location. Clicking the icon for the incident provides you with the report number.

Name search

Request a list of Salem Police citation and incident reports involving a particular person. The list includes the person’s name, incident type, date of occurrence, incident number, and how the person was involved, e.g., victim, complainant, arrested.

Address search

Get a list of Salem Police citation and incident reports at a particular address. The list includes the incident type, date of occurrence, and incident number.

Photographs

You can get copies of photos related to a police report if the photos are releasable.

Records check letter or visa letter

Request a letter that states whether you have a criminal record in Salem. This letter may be used when applying for a work or travel visa. To get this letter, submit a written request and a copy of your photo identification.
