Detectives investigate shooting death

Next of kin notification has been made to the family of the victim. She is identified as Marcie Ann Harris, age 42, of Salem.

There are no further updates in this homicide investigation.

Salem, Ore. — Today, July 21, 2022 at approximately 6:45 a.m., patrol officers were dispatched to the report of a welfare check in the 3300 block of Portland RD NE.

Officers discovered a deceased woman slumped over inside a vehicle. Detectives from the Salem Police Violent Crimes Unit were called to the scene to assume the investigation.

The preliminary investigation shows the woman died as a result of gun violence. “Our detectives are working diligently on this case. At this time there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public,” said acting-in-capacity Deputy Chief Michael Bennett who currently oversees the Investigations Division.

Investigators are working all available leads, and no further information is available for release.
