Preparing for Jury Duty

If you have been summoned for jury duty at the City of Salem Municipal Court, please be sure to follow the steps below.

Juror Questionnaire Form

After receiving your jury summons, you must complete, sign, and return the Juror Questionnaire Form in the enclosed self-addressed envelope or by personal delivery immediately to the Municipal Court. The questionnaire will ask about your qualifications to be a juror as well as provide an opportunity to request deferral or excusal from service.

Parking

When reporting for jury duty you will receive a parking permit during check in. Permit parking is available at the Salem Public Library Parkade on the basement level.

Failure to Respond

Jury service is a civic duty of each citizen. Failure to respond to the Jury Summons may result in a warrant being issued for your arrest.  You may be required to show cause why you should not be held in contempt of court.

Call the night before

You must call 503-588-6146 after 5:00 p.m. the evening before you are scheduled to report. Select option 1 for a recorded message to confirm the trial is going to occur and that you need to report. If your services are not required, your name will be placed back in the jury pool and you may be summoned at a later date. Trials generally last for one day, and occasionally continue past 5:00 p.m.
