Salem, Ore. — A few minutes after midnight this morning, Salem Police officers responded to several calls of a crash involving a motorcyclist near the intersection of Glen Creek and Doaks Ferry RD NW.

Arriving officers located an unresponsive male rider with severe injuries who was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.

The Traffic Team’s preliminary findings indicate the motorcycle rider was attempting to negotiate a curve in the roadway and lost control. He slid and ultimately came to a stop a short distance beyond the curb. The motorcycle went through an adjacent fence. Speed appeared to be a factor in the collision.

The motorcyclist is identified as 40-year-old Timothy Edward Smith.

The intersection and surrounding street were closed for approximately three-and-a-half hours for investigation of the scene.

The case remains an active investigation, and no further information is being released.
