Salem Fire Crews Responding to Grass Fire in South Salem

Update 10:30 p.m.: Level 3 evacuations have been lifted. Residents who live in the area are allowed to go back to their properties. A Level 2 - Be Set to evacuate notice is in effect.

Overnight, fire crews will continue to contain the fire. Thursdays weather shows an increase in wind, high temperatures, and low humidity. Residents in South Salem should continue to stay informed, be ready to leave if conditions worsen, and have a plan to relocate to a safe place. 
 
Update 9 p.m.: 
Tonight Salem Fire Crews will continue to monitor the South Salem Fire during the overnight hours. Winds are expected to decrease during the evening and an increase in humidity will help firefighting conditions. Evacuation zones remain unchanged from the Marion County Sheriffs last report. Roadblocks are still in place. An evacuation center has been established at Judson Middle School in Salem.

 

More than 30 fire fighting apparatus were dispatched, including four aircraft to drop fire retardant from the air. Over 100 firefighters responded. At this time, no injuries have been reported and a damage assessment will be completed in the morning.

Update 6:30 p.m.: Road closures include:
Liberty Road south of Davis Road
Skyline Road south of Davis Road
Liberty Road north of Cole Road
Skyline Road north of Cole Road

 

Please stay out of the way of emergency crews as they continue to respond to the South Salem Fire.

 

Update: 6 pm: Evacuated residents should go to Judson Middle School. 4512 Jones Rd SE, Salem, OR. Crossler Middle School is no longer a reunification site.

 

Update 4:32 pm: Rally point for evacuated homes is Crossler Middle School 1155 Davis Rd S, Salem, OR. At this time, no structures or injuries have been reported.

 

Update 4:20 p.m.: Correction, the fire is burning south of Mildred Rd and West of Liberty Road.

 

South Salem residents in the area west of Liberty Rd and Jory Hill Rd, a level 3 emergency evacuation order has been issued for your area.
All others should monitor conditions, social media, and first responders and leave if you feel threatened.
