Citizen Budget Committee

The Citizen Budget Committee consists of the entire City Council and nine appointed citizen members who analyze and recommend a budget to the City Council. This committee is active for about six weeks in April and May of each year. Members participate in the budget hearings on Wednesdays of each week during this period. The hearings begin at 6:00 p.m. The committee holds occasional meetings throughout the year, as needed.

Special Membership Requirements

The Citizen Budget Committee shall consist of the members of the governing body and a number, equal to the number of members of the governing body, of qualified electors of the municipal corporation appointed by the governing body.
In order to maintain geographic balance, the appointive members of the Citizen Budget Committee shall consist of one elector from each ward and one elector from the city at-large.

Please be prepared to provide your name, and address or ward number, if you wish to provide virtual testimony at the Budget Bommittee meeting. Testimony, including any presentations, is limited to 3 minutes per person.

This survey is available to pre-register between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, to provide comments on agenda-related or non-agenda-related items.

Other Ways to Provide Input: If you cannot join us at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, or if you cannot participate with video (access to camera) and audio (access to microphone), please submit your written testimony related to items on the agenda by 3:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting by email to BudgetOffice@cityofsalem.net. If you wish to drop off written comment, please call 503-588-6040 to arrange a time with staff by 3:00 p.m. the day of the meeting.
