The Mayor’s International Council recognizes, celebrates, and promotes the diverse and international culture of the City of Salem in the following ways:

• Highlights positive contributions in the area of cultural and international relations in Salem.
• Recognizes residents and organizations that make the City of Salem a member of the global community.
• Promotes cultural awareness and understanding for the enrichment of the community.
• Indirectly assists in attracting international businesses that value an intercultural community.
• Acknowledges and appreciates the value of diversity.

Council members meet twice a year. Council members are appointed by the Mayor to represent a variety of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
