Plan Guiding Future Growth in Salem to be Updated by Citywide Project

Post Date:09/19/2018

The City has kicked off a project to update Salem's long-term plan for growth and development. That plan, the Salem Area Comprehensive Plan, will shape how and where the city will grow in the future.

'I'm excited to start this project,' said Lisa Anderson-Ogilvie, Deputy Community Development Director. 'We haven't done a complete update of the Comprehensive Plan in decades, so we know the plan is out of date and may not reflect the community's vision for the future. This is a great opportunity to take a step back, evaluate the city, and see how we want to grow. I hope people get involved!'

The first phase of the project focuses on understanding the current state of the city and how Salem could grow in the future. A consultant team led by Fregonese Associates is providing assistance during this data-driven phase called Our Salem: Today. A stakeholder advisory committee will provide guidance throughout the project.

The need to develop a comprehensive, long-term vision for growth and development in Salem was identified in the 2017 Salem Strategic Plan.
