Big changes are on the way for the Children’s Discovery Room

Post Date:09/22/2023 10:33 AM

Dinosaurs are the next big thing coming to the Discovery Room in the Children’s Corner at Salem Public Library, 585 Liberty St. SE.

The Discovery Room is a creative and collaborative hands-on learning space designed for children ages 4-10 and their adult caregivers to explore and learn through creative play.

First, there will be a temporary closure for an exhibit update from September 27 to October 2.

On Tuesday, October 3, the new exhibit, Discover Dinosaurs!, will open at 1 p.m. as new hours are introduced. New hours for the Discovery Room will be:

  • 1-7 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday
  • 1-5 p.m. Friday
  • 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday
  • 12-5 p.m. Sunday
  • The library is closed on Mondays

In addition to changes in the Discovery Room, new play elements suitable for younger children are being added in the Tiny Tot Play Space, available during all open library hours in the picture book area in Children’s Corner, and in Story Room B, which is available for babies and toddlers for Tiny Tots play sessions following Infant/Toddler Storytimes at 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
