Salem's City Council have made a commitment to actively work toward making our city a great place for people of all ages.

For the past year a diverse group made up of local seniors, executives from non-profit providers, policy makers, funding agencies, County, City and State representatives and academia met monthly to evaluate Salem using criteria established by the World Health Organization and AARP. The 8-liveability domains:

  • Outdoor Spaces and Buildings
  • Transportation
  • Housing
  • Social Participation
  • Respect and Social Inclusion
  • Civic Participation and Employment
  • Communication and Information
  • Community Support and Health Services

The results of the initial assessment are now available. The next step of the Age Friendly Salem process will include creating an action team to address these findings.
