Fairview Park - Historic Timeline

Fairview Park is an approximately 28-acre site located within the former Fairview Training Center campus.

The 275-acre Fairview Training Center campus has been divided into four internal development areas: Pringle Creek Community to the north, Fairview Addition to the west, Fairview Hills Community to the south, and the Fairview Refinement Plan II to the east.

Timeline

Pre-Settlement

Prior to the arrival of white settlers in the mid-1800s the area now known as Salem was occupied by the Ahantchuyuk and Santiam bands of the Kalapuya people.

1908

The Fairview Training Center opened in 1908 for Oregonians living with developmental disabilities.

2000

The Center closed after decades of lawsuits based on human rights violations.

2002

Fairview Training Center property was sold to Sustainable Fairview Associates base on their plan to create a mixed-use, livework neighborhood.

2005

The Fairview Training Center Redevelopment Master Plan was finalized in 2004 and adopted by the City of Salem in 2005.

2010-2016

Most of the original Fairview Training Center buildings were demolished.

Today

Approximately 28-acres of the original campus will be developed into Fairview Park.
