Help Transform Fairview Park!
The City is in the process of planning and designing park improvements and we need your help!
Join us on Saturday, March 30 from 1:00pm-3:00pm at Painters Hall (3911 Village Center Dr SE) to share your insights on two proposed master plan designs for this 28-acre property.
These concepts were generated from nearly 500 community comments collected in 2023, when we asked the community about their vision for future park use and development.
Can’t make the meeting? An online survey will be available in early April.
How will it be Funded?
The City of Salem has allocated almost $1.5 million in Park System Development Charges (SDC) to begin the design and construction.
SDC funds, allocated for Parks, are a one-time fee imposed on development projects to ensure they bear their fair share of the costs associated with expanding the Salem Park System.
Thanks to the 2022 Safety and Livability Bond, more than $500,000 will be used to build an off-leash dog park!
About Fairview Park
Fairview Park is located at 2220 Strong Road SE and is approximately 28 acres in size. As a community park, the park will be developed with active and passive activities and reservable features that may attract community-wide use. The park will also serve residents with close-to-home neighborhood park amenities.
The original Fairview Master Plan was completed and approved in 2016. Since then, the area has experienced a boom in development with a mix of housing types and future commercial properties. Currently, the park is home to hikers, dog walkers and community members seeking rest in a natural setting.
What's Happening So Far
Fairview Park is situated within the Fairview Mixed-Use (FMU) Zone, where development is primarily guided by detailed regulatory plans known as Refinement Plans. These plans specify permitted uses and development standards for different sections of the former Fairview Training Center site. One such area is the corner of the park near the intersection of Strong Road SE and Lindburg Road SE, designated as a pedestrian-oriented "Village Center."
To realize this vision, the project team is exploring the feasibility of adding a building near Strong Road SE and Lindburg Road SE. This building could serve as a public venue for meetings and events, similar to Pringle Hall. Additionally, it could have a dual purpose, offering restroom facilities and a covered area for food cart customers, potentially enabling year-round operation of the food carts on-site.
General Opinion:
- What are your overall thoughts on the idea of adding a building to the corner of Fairview Park?
- How do you envision this building enhancing the overall atmosphere and functionality of the park?
Accessibility and Use:
- How likely would you be to utilize a building like Pringle Hall for meetings or events if it were available for public rental?
- Are there any specific amenities or facilities you would like to see incorporated into the building to better serve the community?
- What are your thoughts on integrating food cart operations with the proposed building?
