Budget Schedule

Each year we establish a budgeting process schedule for the coming fiscal year. 2025-2026 Fiscal Year Schedule:

• October 2023: Begin five-year forecast
• January 10, 2024: Five-Year Forecast presentation to the Citizen Budget Committee
• January-February 2024: City departments submit budgets for review and approval by the City Manager.
• Budget Committee meetings:
  • March 14, 2024, 6 p.m.
  • March 21, 2024, 6 p.m.
  • April 17, 2024, 6 p.m.
  • April 24, 2024, 6 p.m.
  • May 1, 2024, 6 p.m.
  • May 8, 2024, 6 p.m.
  • May 15, 2024, 6 p.m. (if needed)

How You Can Participate

The Citizen Budget Committee is the fiscal planning advisory board for the City Council. Through the budget process they prepare a proposed budget and present it to the public and the Salem City Council for final approval.

You can get involved in several ways through the Citizen Budget Committee:

• Inform yourself about the City’s budget by reading the City Manager’s message and financial summaries in the current (Fiscal Year 2024) budget.
• Watch Budget Committee meetings on CCTV cable, Channel 21.
• Stream live or later on the City of Salem YouTube Channel.
• Attend a Citizen Budget Committee meeting at the Salem Civic Center, 555 Liberty Way SE, Council Chambers.
• Sign up to testify at a meeting either in-person or online.
• Apply to be a Budget Committee Member.
