Environmental Services within the City of Salem works to protect human health and the environment by the following actions:

• Manage and maintain the hazardous waste program
• Perform categorization and chemical profiling of hazardous waste
• Complete and submit the Annual Hazardous Waste Report
• Develop and maintain the Toxic Use Reduction Plan
• Develop and maintain the hazardous waste management contingency plan

Additional duties include:

• Perform the duties of a Radiological Officer
• Management of the radiological materials license
• Maintenance of radiological monitoring equipment
• Perform RCRA Notifications Under 40 CFR Part 261
