City Seeks Your Ideas for Improvements

Post Date:01/13/2022

The City of Salem has pressing needs for fire engines, for streets and sidewalks, for parks, for affordable housing and shelter, and other projects to improve the community. Salem City Council is looking at paying for these capital projects through a community improvements bond measure for voters to consider in November 2022.

There's an opportunity to make needed improvements without increasing the City's property tax rate, - because several previously approved bond measures will be expiring and removed from the tax rolls over the next decade.  We're asking for your input to set priorities for which projects are needed in your neighborhood, and whether the funding among the categories seems right.  Submit your project ideas and learn more about the community improvement bond measure proposal.

We've commissioned a telephone poll, sometimes with a text inquiry, to gauge perceptions about the proposal, assess support for the measure, and assess project priorities.  The poll will be in the field – in Spanish and English - Wednesday, January 12.
