Discovery Room

Children are encouraged to experience learning as play in the Salem Public Library's Discovery RoomSince 1986, the Discovery Room has been a creative and collaborative hands-on learning space designed for children and their adult caregivers to explore and learn through creative play.

Hours in the Discovery Room are:

  • 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday
  • 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday & Saturday

Tiny Tots Spaces

Due to the popularity of the Discovery Room, there are infant/toddler toys available in Story Room B, open from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday where children and their grownups can also spend time together.

Families of infants and toddlers will find additional playthings and special reading spots at the inner circle of the picture book area, available any time the library is open.

Group Visits

Youth Services staff offers storytime/Discovery Room visits for groups of 15 or more children and their caregivers and/or library tours for groups of 8-15 children and their caregivers on Thursdays and Fridays during the school year. Groups larger than 20 may need to be split into smaller groups to accommodate Discovery Room limitations. We look forward to seeing you in the library!
