Summer Reading Challenge

Find Your Voice! ¡Encuentra Tu Voz!

Sign up now for the 2023 Find Your Voice Summer Reading Challenge!

The Salem Public Library has Summer Reading Clubs to encourage readers and listeners of all ages - children, teens, and adults - to enjoy reading throughout the summer. Earn rewards and chances at prizes by signing up and tracking the time you spend reading or listening to books!

The Salem Public Library also offers a listening club for pre-readers and their parents to encourage the continued development of early literacy skills that babies, toddlers, and preschoolers need in order to become readers. Reading is the most important skill needed for all other lifelong learning.

How It Works

Pre-readers (Babies – Preschool)
Complete 10 hours of reading to earn a drawstring backpack and 10 early literacy activities (or 10 additional days of reading) to earn a free prize book.

Kids (Grades K–5) and Teens (Grades 6-12)

  • The first 10 hours of reading or listening earns you a drawstring backpack and 10 prize drawing tickets for chances to win prizes in the Summer Reading Club prize drawing.
  • Read or listen for 10 additional hours to earn a free prize book and 10 more prize drawing tickets.
  • Continue reading additional hours and/or complete activities to earn additional prize tickets until the prize drawing closes on Thursday, August 10.

Adults
This summer, adults can be rewarded for reading or listening to books and completing six fun challenges! Earn a badge and one prize drawing ticket for each challenge completed and for every 10 hours of reading or listening reported. Everyone who completes at least 10 hours of reading and all six challenges earns a free Salem Public Library tote bag! Prize drawing tickets must be submitted by Thursday, August 10.

Readers of all ages have until Saturday, September 9 to pick up the incentives they earn and any prizes they win.
